Lt. Michael R. Davidson Playground Construction

Location: 39 Ave. between 50 St. and 51 St., Sunnyside, NY

Client: JCC Construction Corp.

Agency: NYC Department of Parks and Recreation

Scope:

  • Pre & Post Construction Survey Services

  • Engineering Design

Located at the corner of 50th Street and 39th Avenue, in Sunnyside Queens, the newly constructed Lt. Michael R. Davidson Playground serves as a local playground for the community and as a lasting tribute to Fireman Lieutenant Michael R. Davidson, who lost his life in the line of duty. The firefighter-themed playground will incorporate restored elements from the original park and feature a commemorative flagpole honoring Lieutenant Davidson, preserving both his legacy and the site’s historic character.

Quadrant Engineering was subcontracted to perform pre-construction and post-construction surveys to verify that preserved structures and adjacent buildings remained undisturbed throughout the course of the work. In addition, our team developed detailed mobilization and relocation plans for the existing shed and pavilion canopy, ensuring their protection and preservation during construction activities. Given that certain elements of the project were subject to historic preservation requirements, our approach placed particular emphasis on careful planning, documentation, and execution to maintain compliance and safeguard these sensitive assets.
